I Know You Are, But What Am I?

August 18, 2010

Emotional abusers have a way of punishing you for their own bad behavior or thoughts. They like to project their undesirable qualities onto you. Pointing their finger at you, takes the heat off them.

If they are a control freak, they will accuse you of being too controlling. If they are guilty of lying to you, they will complain about not being able to trust you. If they have been unfaithful, they will accuse you of not having boundaries or flirting with other people. If they have an inferiority complex, they might say something sarcastic like “Oh, you think you’re so perfect” or “You think you know everything”. They might chastise you for lacking self-control as they are lashing out at you. Better yet, they will punish you for hurting them after they have repeatedly hurt you.

Denial is never having to say you’re sorry.
